Brent oil surges to $US53 for first time in history

The price of Brent North Sea crude oil has rocketed to a new record high of $US53 ($67.73) per barrel in the United Kingdom and crude futures approached record levels in New York above $US55 on strong speculative fund buying, traders and analysts said.
